Drumday washer-care guide
What happens when you don’t clean your washer?
Every load gets a wash. The machine can still collect what the laundry leaves behind. Here’s why skipping washer care deserves a second thought.
See what gets left behind
A shiny drum tells only part of the story. Washer care includes the drum, accessible seals and dispenser—not just the clothes inside.
-
Residue can build up where you don’t see it.
Water, detergent and fabric softener pass through the machine with every load. Over time, laundry products can leave buildup inside the washer. GE Appliances explains that excess soap can become trapped in the outer tub and develop an odor.
The part of the drum you can see isn’t the whole machine. Repeating a laundry cycle isn’t the same as following its dedicated cleaning routine.
-
Damp spaces can give mold and mildew a foothold.
A front-loader’s seal helps keep water in during a wash. It can also keep the empty tub from drying properly when the door stays closed.
Whirlpool explains that warm, damp conditions, without regular cleaning or proper use, can allow mold and mildew to grow in the drum and along the gasket. Care needs to address moisture as well as buildup.
-
The smell can follow you into laundry day.
Whirlpool identifies detergent residue, dispenser buildup and an unclean washer as possible sources of musty odors. A washer that smells can leave freshly washed clothes smelling musty too.
A fragrance or another wash doesn’t explain the source. If the smell keeps returning, the machine’s care routine deserves attention alongside your laundry routine.
-
Visible mold deserves attention.
CDC says exposure to damp, moldy environments can cause symptoms such as coughing, wheezing or irritation in some people, while others have no effects. People with asthma or mold allergies may react more strongly.
That is general indoor-mold guidance. It doesn’t establish the exposure from your washer, diagnose an odor, or prove that Washer Reset prevents illness.
If you see mold, follow your appliance maker’s guidance for dealing with it. If an odor persists after thorough care, Whirlpool advises arranging service to investigate.
-
Give the machine a place in your routine.
Washer care is a separate job. Check your manual for the cleaning cycle, suitable cleaner and schedule. Care for accessible seals and the dispenser separately as directed.
When your manual permits a tablet cleaner, Drumday Washer Reset Tablets are a boxed washer-cleaner pack for that dedicated drum-cleaning step. Empty the drum and follow the cleaner label and your washer’s instructions.
Washer Reset is offered for routine washer cleaning. It is not represented as a disinfectant, mold treatment or health-protection product.
